We have recently agreed on a policy (not implemented yet!) to ban these devices in labs. As a trade off we will provide docking stations, but will be up to the labs to reach a consensus on what to play.
I’m sure our next issue will be the volume and content.
However I have had a number of experiences of being a metre behind a student and yelling at them while they bob their heads in oblivion. I can remedy this with a tap on the shoulder, but what if the alarms went off? Or someone yells for help.

How do folks handle this? Do you have policy /language regarding the use of ear bud-type radios (ipods,…etc.) while in a lab?
